The National Union of Local Government Employees
(NULGE), South West Zone, has observed with
satisfaction the activities of President Muhammadu
Buhari’s administration in the past one hundred days
in office.
It noted that the body language of the President has
been a controlling measure to shaping things in all
sectors of the economy.
A statement by NULGE Zonal Chairman,Comrade
Oludare Famoofo in Akure, the Ondo State Capital said
“we are confident now that we have a President.
Famoofo, who is also the National Vice President
(Southwest), said “Our Union shares the concern of the
President on the Local Government funds in Joint
Accounts as contained in his inaugural speech.
“Our Union is constrained to point out that the body
language of Mr. President has not reflected in the way
the Governors are handling the Local Government Joint
Accounts.
“We want to state that as it was in the beginning, so is
the case now, and we are no party to make it endure
forever.
The NULGE Chief said the only exception in Nigeria is
the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai
which according to him has decided to uphold
democracy and transparency by not hijacking the Local
Government funds through the Joint Accounts.
Famoofo said “Nasir El Rufai is the only Governor that
is doing the right thing by not tampering with Local
Government funds. We want to state categorically that
part of the root causes of insurgency in Nigeria is the
hijack of Local Government funds by State Governors
for a long time, thereby robbing the grassroots of real
development.
“He is our Governor of the year in all things essential
for the progress of the Local Governments. Our Union
promises unflinching loyalty to the Federal Government
in pursing autonomy for the Local Government.
“This is a sure way to eradicate Boko Haram as there
will be more development centres in all Local
Governments in Nigeria. The issue of change in Nigeria
as contemplated by the President will be a mirage as
long as the President continues to allow Governors to
continue to spend Local Government funds.
“The issue of making Nigeria to become a corrupt free
nation where things works is the collective
responsibility of all Nigerians. Our Union is prepared to
relate effectively with the Federal Government in all
things essential for mutual progress to move Nigeria
forward,” the statement conclude
A site that looks at the good, the bad and even the sordid details of socio-political issues of all ramifications just the way they happen. Enjoy!
