CATHOLIC ARCHBISHOP CAUTIONS BUHARI ON NEGOTIATING WITH BOKO HARAM.

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Alfred Adewale Martins, Thursday hailed
President Muhammadu Buhari for handing the military a three-month ultimatum to end Boko
Haram insurgency but urged Nigerians to be steadfast in their prayers as all human efforts
without prayers were futile.
He however called on the President to be circumspect while negotiating with members of the
Boko Haram sect, stressing that “We are in support of the president exhausting all possible
and realistic means of bringing back our girls and ensuring lasting peace in the Northeast.
“We urge him to be cautious of the far reaching implications of every such move in view of
the sensitive nature of the matter at hand,” he said.
Martin, who was speaking in his Eid el-Kabir message called on Muslims to use the festive
period to pray for quick and lasting end of insurgency in Nigeria.
He maintained that there was the need for Muslims and all Nigerians to use the period to
seek for God’s mercy on the country.
The cleric further urged Muslims to emulate the exemplary life of Prophet Ibrahim who was
willing to sacrifice his only son in obedience to divine ordinance.
