Following the recommendation of the state
committee on the prerogative of mercy, Kano
State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Friday, set 14
inmates of the Kurmawa Central Prison in Kano
metropolis free, after he paid their fines.
Governor Abdullahi made the release of the
inmates known on Friday during a visit to the
prison in Kano, stressing that the gesture was
part of the state government’s efforts to alleviate
the sufferings of the common man, especially
those inmates who could not pay the fine.
He gave the 14 inmates N5, 000 each to enable
them transport themselves to their respective
home towns and villages, urging them to be of
good conduct after their reunion with their
respective families.
The Comptroller of Prisons in the state, Alhaji
Ahmed Abubakar, in response, commended the
governor for the gesture and the state
government for its continuous support for prisons
in the state.
