UNIJOS LECTURERS COMMENCES INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION.


As a means of awakening the Federal Government on their demand for a better working
condition, lecturers of the University of Jos, UNIJOS, on Friday commenced an indefinite
strike.
This was announced in a statement signed by Prof F. C. Piwuna, the Chairman of the
University’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Piwuna said the industrial action was approved by the ASUU National Executive Council.
According to him, “The NEC of ASUU has approved our request for total, indefinite and
comprehensive strike starting immediately.
“It means that all activities: teaching, supervision, examination as well as statutory and ad
hoc committee meetings have been suspended.”
Piwuna however failed to disclose further details on the reasons for the strike, even though it
was gathered that the Academics are agitating for an improved working conditions.
The striking lecturers are also demanding that certain allowances being paid enjoyed by their
colleagues in other institutions be paid to them.
