The anti social media protest was Tuesday
morning taken to the National Assembly by
protesters against the ongoing law to gag the
online platform by the nation’s lawmakers.
Protesters with placards reading, “Social Media
Bill is anti-people” were chorusing “we no go
gree o” in obvious angst, asking the lawmakers
to stop further actions on the bill. They were
however stopped at the first gate by heavily
armed Policemen who insisted they would not
be allowed to enter the National Assembly.
The protester who stormed the Assembly in
large numbers, were mostly dressed in black
attires, with some in sealed black sellotape on
their mouths.
One of the protesters who identified himself
as Nnamdi told newspapers that the Senators
were obviously out to gag the press,
something he likened to Decree 4 of the past
Military era, stressing that they would do
everything they can to resist it.
A lady who was addressing the protesters whose
name could not be confirmed by DAILY POST
expressed disappointment on Senators of the 8th
Assembly, explaining that all of them were
intellectually bankrupt if they could not understand
the contribution of the social media which has
evolved in the 21st century.
” Attempt by the Nigeria Senators to gag social
media shows they are intellectually bankrupt,
especially that they could not understand the
contribution of social media in the 21st
century,” she said.
Security agents who barricaded the entrance of
the National Assembly gate urged the
protesters to be peaceful.
A site that looks at the good, the bad and even the sordid details of socio-political issues of all ramifications just the way they happen. Enjoy!
