Former chairman of the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru
Jega, yesterday said he will do his best to reform
and reposition Plateau State University (PLASU)
within a reasonable time.
Professor Jega, who was recently named Pro
chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council
of the state owned institution was yesterday
inaugurated along with other members of the
council at the Banquet hall of the Government
House.
He said: “From what I have learnt and heard,
Plateau State University is an institution founded
on lofty ideas with excellent vision and mission
statements, but its potentials have not been
nurtured, rather its growth potentials have been
undermined by many challenges. Unfortunately,
these challenges have accumulated over time and
are now enormous.”
The former INEC boss however said the
challenges were not insurmountable adding that,
“With the support of Governor Lalong and people
of Plateau State, within a very short and
reasonable time we will be able to surmount
most of the challenges,” he said.
Prof. Jega added that the governing council will
offer constructive advice through Governor Lalong
and will oversee and guide the vice chancellor and
university management to develop the institution.
Earlier, Governor Simon Bako Lalong said his
passion is to see the university back on the track
of stabilization and pursuit of excellence.
“Plateau State University, as the only state
owned university has no business remaining in the
toddler or crawling state of existence”, he said.
A site that looks at the good, the bad and even the sordid details of socio-political issues of all ramifications just the way they happen. Enjoy!
