The police force has honored two of its officers, CSP Olusoji Akinbayo and Inspector Sunday Idowu to the ranks of ACP and ASP for rejecting a $21 million bribe.
According to the Nigerian Tribune , the officers reportedly arrested a suspect identified as Samuel Wilberforce for pipeline vandalisation with his gang.
The suspect reportedly tried to bribe the officers but they not only rejected it but also arrested the suspects.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Mr
Mike Okiro , made the disclosure at the 19th plenary meeting of the commission while announcing the elevation of the officers.
Okiro also said that the commission has taken it's war against corruption to to the public with the help of the Federal government.
He emphasized that the commission has a mandate to appoint, promote and discipline members of the police force » .
According to him, the commission has not only disciplined its officers, who have compromised their position, but has promoted six senior police officers who have shown rare and exemplary courage.
In the same vein, Okiro said that the commission also approved the promotion of CSP Sulaiman Muhammad Abdul to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police for his outstanding performance in the fight against corruption.
According to the reports, CSP Abdul, recovered the sum of N42 billion for the Federal Government in the course of his duty as a part of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) , in the course of his duty.
