The leadership of Labour Party in Rivers State has disassociated itself from the statement
credited to its Candidate in the April 11 Governorship election, Prince Tonye Princewill over
the annulment of the Rivers State Governorship election.
Princewill had in a statement personally signed by him, advised the Rivers state Governor,
Nyesom Wike against appealing the Judgment of the Governorship election petition tribunal.
Briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt, the state Chairman of the party, Felix Favour asked the
general public to disregard the statements.
Favour recalled that Tonye Princewill is still serving his suspension by the disciplinary
committee of the Party and can therefore not speak on behalf of the Labour party.
He said the Labour Party believes in the rule of law, adding that it stands by the ruling of the
tribunal.
“You are talking with the authority of the Labour Party in Rivers state and whatever I say is
what the party stands for. Everybody has sympathy for one group or the other and I believe
Tony Princewill was talking from his own point of view.
“The Labour party stands with whatever the Law says. As a party, we stand by what the Law
has decided.
“Princewill is no longer the candidate of the party and whatever he says is not the opinion of
the part. He took a decision not to go to court so he cannot advise others not to appeal,”
Favour said.
In the meantime, the Labour Party declared its readiness for fresh
election should there be need for any.
